When you can’t see the forest for the trees…

Posted on

Do you ever feel that on this Unbecoming Journey, you don’t know where to begin?  Like there is so much about you that needs to be undone, that it leaves you feeling overwhelmed?  Maybe my latest post, Take 5|Unbecoming Me in 25 Minutes a Day, almost sounded like a joke to you…”if that were only possible.”  It doesn’t matter where you are in your process, it always seems that once one layer is removed – there are several more that become apparent.  You know the old saying, “when you can’t see the forest for the trees?”  I am here to let you know, if you identify with this feeling at all, you are probably already in the proverbial forest.

What we need is an interruption.  A God interruption.  If you are presently reading this…you may be headed into one.

Do you ever talk over God?  Always giving Him excuses for why we can’t wait, why we don’t listen? Does He in turn have to interrupt our lives because we refuse to provide space for communion with Him?  I know I do. I have spent ALOT of my Unbecoming Journey talking to God about me.  Asking Him for courage to confront myself, strength to take off learned traits, wisdom to know what to attack first, discipline to stick with it…yadayadayada…sound familiar?  What if all the time I spent talking to God about me, I would have spent asking Him to reveal the me He created.

Jeremiah 1:5

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in your mothers womb, I knew you.  Before you were born, I set you apart and appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

I have spent hours, days, weeks, pouring my heart out to God, telling Him all the things about me that I need His grace and mercy to help me change, when I should have been asking Him for revelation about who HE knows I am.  Have you ever tried to put together something from IKEA without an instruction manual?  Well that would be hilarious and frustrating all at the same time.  EXACTLY!  We act like we know ourselves!  It doesn’t matter how much time you have spent on this planet, you do NOT know you better than God.  He knew you before your manual was ever written.

See, God does not work like us.  He created us with destiny in mind…we are always working towards our destiny.  He saw our complete purpose before we ever showed up on our first ultrasound photo.  Before we were ever born, He set us apart.  We think we are Unbecoming, when we are just fulfilling our original intent.  Every step we unbecome, we are one step closer to “the girl He knew!”  How freeing is that?  I dont know about you but for me, it feels like a HUGE weight lifted!  Like I can actually breath!  Girl, look around!  See all of those trees?  They are only evidenece that you are in the FOREST!

Take the pressure off of yourself, we werent meant to carry that anyway.  The time that we spend working on us, we could spend at the feet of the One who made us.  We will Unbecome more in those moments of communion than we could ever imagine.

If you are attempting to Unbecome without Jesus at the center…it will not work.

I feel impressed to leave you with a simple prayer.  A prayer that is not ladened with work and with pressure.  Don’t get me wrong, there are times and seasons for war, however if you feel that is what your prayer time always is, then my prayer for you is that you receive the revelation that “IT IS FINISHED.”

“Father, here I am…your daughter.  Made in your perfect image.  If my imagery is not falling in line with the girl you know, reveal her to me.  Show me my true character, so that when I act out of character I am aware.  Allow me to see deeper into you, more of your heart, that it would become mine.  You set me apart, show me when I am conforming to a purpose that is not your intent.  Allow me to embrace my destiny in fullness so that I don’t spend wasted years partaking in trivial things that don’t line up with your plans. When I know YOU more I will know me more.  I want to know YOU more.”

  1. This is so on time. Of wanting to be in that place of intimacy and knowing Him more and at the same time letting go of all the stuff and that revealing who He’s made me to be. This word and prayer is exactly on time. Thank you.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing. I am in the middle of a season change in my life from corporate america due to a reduction in force and wanting to make sure that i do not step out on my flesh and let God have the wheel. I chose to be an open vessel. This encouragement is right on time.
