    Unbecoming the Noise

I never thought I would say this, but am I the only person that doesn’t listen to music in their car?  Unless of course one of my four children, who become instant Dj’s auditioning to spin for Coachella, are with me.  What do I listen to then?  Silence.  Pure silence.  It’s the most beautiful thing.

In a world whose soundtrack is similar to that of rush hour at Grand Central Station…silence is not only relished, but celebrated.

Lately, I have been sensing a nudge (more like a shove) towards Unbecoming the noise.  The noise of so many voices, the negative echos of years past, the gossip, the constant need to chatter to fill up space.  My favorite people in the world to be around, are the people I can be with and not have to say a word.

    Unbecoming the Noise Panel

July 6th, we had our Unbecoming Me Ladies Night In, and a panel of women I absolutely adore, shared from their hearts concerning this topic.  It was powerful to say the least.

Here are some of the takeaways from that evening…

    1.  Speak what you seek until you see what you’ve said
    2. I won’t be against me…I will be FOR me
    3. We were never meant to be chameleons, we were always meant to be peacocks
    4. Own your own words
    5. When people speak, instead of judging them, be mature enough to believe that they did the best with what they knew to do in that moment
    6. The enemy is real.  He came to steal, kill, destroy.  He wants to use your tongue to do it.  Don’t be a participant.

I want to challenge you to Unbecome the Noise in your life.  Not just Netflix, or Sirius XM…but the unnecessary voices (that may even be your own).  Be comfortable in the quiet.  Create space for it and then stay there for 5 minutes longer than you think you should 🙂
