    UMFAST DAY#24

James 4:16-17As it is, you are full of your grandiose selves. All such vaunting self-importance is evil. In fact, if you know the right thing to do and don’t do it, that, for you, is evil.”

    Double whammy!

    1. We are full of our “grandiose” selves 😭 Vaunting self-importance is evil.  I’m going to toe a very fine line here as we delve into this portion of today’s devo.  Because the most formidable of my young adult life, this message was preached to a point of harm.  Now, everyone isn’t wired the same on the inside.  We are each created uniquely, no two of us the same.  For individuals who struggle with self-worth, value, identity, and/or those who have experienced trauma such as abuse in any way – physical, emotional, sexual…this message has to be soaked in love when it is preached.  If it is preached out of any other origin, it can be destructive.  And God has come that we would have an abundant life.  What we can take away from James instruction, is that we should be so full of Jesus, that there is no way we can be full of ourselves.
    2. If you know the right thing to do and don’t do it, then it is sin.  This is convicting AND compelling.  We can not just be hearers of the Word and not doers.  Have you ever read the scripture, to whom much is given – much is required?  We are responsible for our own selves.  And once you have heard the instruction of the Lord (whether you actually “listened” or not, you are held responsible for it.  Sis, it’s time to stop playing church and it is definitely time to stop seeing how much we can get away with and still be saved.  I don’t even understand that.  We need to fall so in love with Jesus, that we love what He loves and hate what He hates.

    Consecration: Evil

If it looks like evil 🙈, sounds like evil 🙉, smells like evil 👃 (ran out of monkey emojis), tastes like evil 🙊, or acts like evil 👿, don’t touch it.  Today, draw closer to the Lord and further from sin.  Have a Davidic conversation with the Lord.  Ask Him to search you and know your heart, to see if there’s anything in you that shouldn’t be there.  And then listen to what he has to say and follow through.
