#smilestones – celebrate the small stuff

I have 4 amazing kiddos…and I think that “Momming” is literally one of the mains of why I was created.  I know in parenting that we are supposed to be the teachers, however in my 15 years of being a mother I would have to argue that my children have taught me so much.

I remember when I had my first born, Collin.  Here he is on the right looking like a grown man…and I remember his baby book and how it had pages designated for ll of the important events that you could think of in your first borns childhood.  (Notice how I specified first born, because in my case the more kids I had-the less I documented 😜).  These important moments, i.e. rolling over, first steps, first tooth, first hair cut…etc are what we would all refer to as MILESTONES in our children’s lives.  They are events that we remember and want to document, they are feats, challenges that promote us to snap a photo and CELBRATE what our pride and joy had accomplished.

Well I would like to introduce to you a new concept…it’s called #smilestones.

This may be something new for you, but it is something that my children have taught me “whether they know it or not”.  It is taking time to mark the spot and to celebrate the small stuff.  Get it small + milestones = smilestones.  (I saw you smile there 😉).
My husband and I determine to do this in parenting our spiritual children as well.  When we launched TKC, we said that we will cultivate a culture who celebrates the small stuff!  Too often, we live our lives in constant expectation of the next big thing.  We find our value based upon achievements.  And there is nothing wrong with appreciating milestones in our lives and those of our friends and families, but when we overlook the every day blessings and find it difficult to find beauty in the small and simple…then we rob ourselves of such joy. CELBRATE THE SMALL STUFF!  Go overboard if you have to!! Everyone has their shoes on the right feet and the sun is shining outside? Go for a sno-cone…make a smilestone!  You woke up today and you are blessed with a roof over your head and another day to be alive? Celebrate!

It is when we make a habit of celebrating the small things, that we create a culture of thanksgiving and gratitude in our lives.  Celebrating the small doesn’t diminish the giant triumphs, it only increases your capacity to notice and prompts your heart to be open to appreciate them!

I challenge you, start implementing #smilestones in your life today!  Celebrate the small stuff, become simple again.
    Xoxo…
