    ICYMI | Fantasy Football

It’s time for in case you missed it Monday!  Last week i had such a fantastic time ministering at my dear friend, Dena Trice’s church Maranatha in Mont Bellevue Texas.  I was the guest speaker at her annual Ladies Wild Tailgate Party!  There are so many reasons that I love this…Who says that football is just for men?  Who says that women can’t have football parties?  And not just the kind where we are stuck in the kitchen making chili and nachos and serving them to our men.

At my house Fantasy Football is HUGE!  We go all out for it like it’s the Super Bowl.  This year my 15 year old son, Collin, is the commissioner of the league.  He was super excited and so freaking cute!  We were all geared up for the draft when I had a major “aha” moment 🙇🏽🙀🙊🙌🏽🎯!  In case you’re not familiar, the FF draft is where you create an other worldly team by picking your favorite players or who you think is best at each particular position.  You do this for every single position on your team.  Most of these teams are just so unbelievably stacked that there is no way they could ever be real…thus the term Fantasy Football.

Oh em gee…We have a problem girls!

We are playing fantasy football with our lives.  We have been duped.  Blame it on Pinterest if it makes you feel better…but the idea that today’s woman is supposed to have it all and be it all…is well, a fantasy.

Don’t get me wrong and hear what I’m not saying. I love today’s woman.  Our Moms and Aunts and Grandmothers all had intricate parts to play in the advancement of women (especially in the church) we are seeing today.  However, they did NOT drive themselves crazy trying to be overachievers in 10 completely different areas of life.  They didn’t make our childhood picture perfect, weren’t the president of the PTA, push themselves to develop over the top personal talents, have a stellar career, deep clean their homes every week, plant their own personal garden, mow and landscape, organize their pantries for “posts on the gram”, cook 2 homemade organic meals a day, be a freak in the sheets, complete our science fair projects, attend barre/yoga/cross fit 5 days a week, take their dogs to the park, have perfectly manicured nails, serve at church, and have a vibrant relationship with Jesus!  Can you keep up? Ugh… me neither!

We are trying to live a fantasy and it isn’t just exhausting, it’s impossible!

Ok so I know you are saying – wait but there is so and so and they are DOING IT.  LIE!  The person who you look at and think “#winning” is clearly only putting the best parts of her story on display. Trust me. Nobody can divide their time and attention into this many segments and be all things to all people!  That would be like showing up for the Fantasy draft and only taking one player.  Sounds ludicrous right? That’s because it is…however that is exactly what we are doing to ourselves!!!

We hold the highlight reel to everyone’s lives in our hands.  We scroll down and click the ❤️ button to their personal Vangot.  Then we take all of these individual works of art and place them into one gallery of our mind and expect it to spit out a perfectly engineered model, chef, fitness trainer, homemaker, fashion designer, business woman, craft maker, party planner, bible teacher, motivational speaker, financial guru, entrepreneur, etc…IT IS NOT REAL LIFE.  It is a fantasy.  Perfection is NOT possible.

If you’re anything like me, you lay down at night and the only feeling worse than being completely exhausted, is the feeling that you aren’t enough.

This is the UNBECOMING! You have to know who YOU are – if you are a quarterback, a defensive back, a tight end 😉, or on the O-line, and then you have to fight for that!  Step up to the draft day knowing that instead of being a jack of all trades, you have found that thing which your heart loves!  That thing that makes you uniquely you!  Be passionate about it.  Devote your time and your attention to it.

Can you imagine watching a football game where 1 player walks out on a field?

No one person plays all of the needed positions on a field! So why should we? I really believe that God is looking to gather his army and one soldier is showing up.  We are making our daughters scared to become wives and mothers!  Think of it, you may be robbing someone in your life of being who they are supposed to be because you are a being a BALL HOG.

The word of God says in John 10:10 “The devil came to steal, kill and destroy, but I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly!”

I challenge you today to really take inventory of your life and find what brings you joy, what drains you, what leaves you feeling exhausted and what brings you abundant living.  Then make peace with that! There is only one you…be her! She is amazing…she is one of a kind.  She is begging to be released!

    Xoxo,

    Steph
