    Demo Day

Today is a special day for the Harrisontribe… It’s not moving day or the first day that we will walk into our miracle home (that could have only been an answer to prayers we honestly didn’t believe that we deserved enough to ask God for) but today is DEMO DAY! Now if you have watched any episode of one of mine and Bellas favorite shows “Fixer Upper” or any remodeling, diy, or design show on the beloved hgtv…then you will not need to ask what I am referring to when I say Demo Day.  I am talking about the day in the remodeling process when you go in and year things out, rip up old floors, tear down walls that you don’t want to remain, basically destroy anything standing in the way of your expected end or vision for the future home you are designing.

This day is one of the most important days in the process of a remodel… However it seems as if when we are working on the redesign of our lives whether it be setting new goals, resolutions, or trying to create something different than what we currently live in, we too often skip right over demo day.

We venture to spend 21 days creating new habits, or declaring things over our lives without having a day of reckoning to destroy the foundations and walls we have in place that simply do not fit our new design or floor plan.  Therefore, more times than not we end up at the end of 21 days (or whatever particular number you prefer to establish change) right back at square one.  Frustration sets in, and years later we look back and wish we were in a different “house” than we are.

What went wrong? We failed to have a personal demo day…a day where you put on your work clothes, rolled up your sleeves and went to town! Ripping up terrible foundations, busting down walls that are out of place and not providing an open floor plan…see without demo day a remodel is impossible.  We need to rent a big dumpster, put on our work clothes and get violent with the things that we refuse to live with any longer!!! And then once we have demolished them, put in the work to create a different dwelling place.  I believe if we would do this that we would wake up months and years from now and be proud of the homes we live in, want to invite others over to visit, and be content coming home to every day!

The old saying says no pain, no gain…so set a demo day in your life and get started!!!!

    Xoxo,

    SH
